The Italian section of the Golden keys was established in 1949 thanks to Gabriele Franzetti, Chef Concierge of the Palace Hotel in Milan. After several meetings with the French President Ferdinand Gillet, Italy became one of the seven founder members of the International Association of the Golden Keys. After the first Congress in Cannes held in 1952, Italy organized in 1953, the second international appointment in Sanremo attended by eleven nations. In 1978 Spartaco Giarola became the first Italian President of U.I.P.G.H. and Giorgio Chiesa, after his election as Italian President of FIPA in 1995, was nominated second vice president of U.I.P.G.H. During those years ten regional associations belonged to the Italian Federation of the Golden Keys. In November 2000 the new Statute of the Association was approved by the General Assembly and the name F.I.P.A. changed into U.I.P.A. The respect of the statute and the request by the International Board to keep under control the identity of the associates, persuade many of them not in line with the new disposal, to move out of the Union. Only those who are employed as concierges and display on the lapels of their uniforms the crossed golden keys, have the right to be members of “Les Clefs d’Or”. Nearly 350 U.I.P.A. associates are now divided by seven regions whilst a new generation of young concierges is coming up. In these last years the Union has build up several projects as the website, the Bulletin of Les Clefs d’Or online and an important School project to develop the knowledge of the Concierge art to the new generations. Every year many concierge masters teach at the Hotel School how to become an excellent, professional concierge. Thanks to this experience, U.I.P.A. is now organizing a private Concierge School addressed to those who, after their degree, are willing to become Concierges Clefs d’Or. |
